Game Recap: Blazes Fall to Stags, Close Season

Cheverus 1, Westbrook 0
Saturday, October 26
Memorial Stadium, Portland

Andrei Vile scored in the 43rd minute on a MacKenzie Hoglund corner kick, and #7 Cheverus (10-4-1) held off #10 Westbrook (5-8-1) in a Western Maine Class A Preliminary Round playoff game.

Cheverus controlled possession 52% of the game and accumulated more scoring chances than Westbrook, but the Blue Blazes had one of the best scoring chances in the 30th minute when Kaleb Kent ('14) was sprung behind the Cheverus defenders by an Owen Gills ('14) pass only to see his shot past Cheverus goalkeeper Charlie Mull cleared off the line by a trailing Cheverus defender.

Westbrook goalkeeper Austin Blake ('14) had ten saves in the loss. Westbrook closed the season with its best record in three years, and this was the program's first playoff appearance since 2009.
